The Power of Consistency
Consistency turns our intention into progress. Supplements and medications work best when taken regularly, not just occasionally. That’s because the body is constantly using up and renewing nutrients and neurotransmitters. Just like food, hydration and sleep, these inputs need steady replenishment to continuously fulfill their purpose.
Many supplements, like magnesium, vitamin D, or omega-3s, need time to build up in the system. Their effects are not immediate, but gradual and cumulative. The same is true for many psychiatric medications. They reach a steady state in the bloodstream after a certain number of consistent doses. Skipping doses or taking them only when symptoms feel intense can disrupt that balance and even make things worse.
Not all medications need to be taken daily, but many do. Some depend on a stable level in the body to maintain their effect. Others can tolerate more flexibility. If you're unsure, ask your healthcare provider whether your medication is one that requires daily consistency or allows for occasional use.
It’s easy to overlook a supplement or dose here and there, but over time, inconsistency adds up. It’s like caring for a pothos. Skipping once or twice is fine, but leave it too long and it starts looking tired.
Consistency isn’t just about compliance. It’s about giving the body and brain the support they need to adapt, heal, and regulate.
