What Is ADHD?
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects attention, impulse control, and executive functioning. Although symptoms often begin in childhood, many people are not diagnosed until adolescence or adulthood. ADHD can affect school, work, relationships, and daily responsibilities, but effective treatment can significantly improve quality of life.
There are three presentations of ADHD:
Predominantly inattentive presentation
Predominantly hyperactive-impulsive presentation
Combined presentation

How Is ADHD Diagnosed?
Diagnosing ADHD involves much more than completing a questionnaire. At Clarity MindCare, every evaluation is individualized and based on current clinical guidelines. The goal is to determine whether ADHD best explains your symptoms while also considering other medical and mental health conditions that may cause similar difficulties.
An ADHD evaluation may include:
A comprehensive psychiatric and medical history
A review of childhood and current symptoms
Developmental, educational, and occupational history
Discussion of how symptoms affect daily functioning
Standardized ADHD rating scales when appropriate
Screening for anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, sleep disorders, learning disorders, and substance use
Review of previous evaluations or records when available
Not everyone who struggles with attention has ADHD. Conditions such as anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, thyroid dysfunction, trauma, and bipolar disorder can produce similar symptoms. A careful evaluation helps ensure that treatment is based on the correct diagnosis.
